“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” -Matthew 5:3
Blessed people are happy people. They are people who are content with where the Lord has them and are eager to live for Him no matter the circumstance and no matter the situation. When Jesus began the sermon on the mount, He began describing the blessed man. The blessed man is first poor in spirit. This is the man or woman who realizes that they have nothing to bring to God. They are in a completely helpless state. They are truly humble and display sincere humility knowing that they are so poor they don’t deserve the grace of the Lord. The man who is poor in spirit knows He is lost, He is bankrupt without Christ. This man, because He knows that He is nothing without Christ, will be one who will inherit the Kingdom of heaven.
Dear brothers and sisters, there will be no one who will strut their way into the kingdom of heaven. There will be no one who will waltz their way through its gates thinking that they did something to earn an entrance there. No man or woman who will enter the presence of the Saviour will enter with pride thinking that they accomplished this on their own. Only the poor in spirit will enter. Only those who have been broken will enter. Only those who have come to the end of themselves and realize their desperate need of Christ will enter. You must be a person who is poor is spirit to enter God’s kingdom it you will not enter it at all. Are you poor of Spirit today?
