Recently I have been writing sermons through the book of Philippians in preparation and training to preach the Word of God. Just a few days ago I finished my sermon on Philippians 1:6, titled; The Work of God in the Life of a Believer. While studying for this message, I spent some time in Romans chapter 8, reflecting on the wonderful realities of our security in the God-head. It is so magnificent to know that we are secure and protected by Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I pray these thoughts will bring comfort to your soul:
“As our good shepherd, the Lord never will allow one of His sheep to go missing. He will not allow one of His own to be lost. He is watching over those who are His own and He cares for them! Our Lord says in John 10, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
Believer, you are secure in Christ! The work that Christ began in you will be perfected, it will be accomplished, it will be brought to fruition! Take confidence in this fact, that your mighty Saviour, your good Shepherd, loves you, cares for you, and has bought you with His blood! Think of how He intercedes for you before the throne of grace having made amends for our sins through His great sacrifice! Think that He Himself died on the cross for your sins, how much more will He not redeem you and bring you to be with Him forever!
Take thought of the Holy Spirit who dwells within you, who prayers for you, who groans for you before the throne of God! Remember His working in your life, His drawing your heart to the Lords, His protection over you! Think of the counsel He gives you, the comfort He shows you, the enlightenment you receive from Him to understand and know His Word. Think of the prayers He offers for you, praying for you when you know not how to pray, and bringing your requests to your heavenly Father! Think of this and know that these prayers will not be denied, they will be answered! Think of this and know that these prayers will bring you to glory, they will help complete the work God began in you!
Finally dear saint think of God the Father! Think of His justification for you, His declaring you righteous and know that no one can refute His declaration! Think of His love for you, as a Father who gave up His one and only Son! Think that He sent Him to the earth to live amongst sinful wretched humanity for 33 years and then to die for you! Think of that sacrifice! Think of the pain that is caused the Father to turn His back on His own Son as He hung in agony on the tree! Think of this and know dear Christian, know with certainty that, “…He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus!”
